Thanks for the welcome, Stefano!

Yes, I am, although I mostly work with debian-olpc. I've taken over responsibility for education-desktop-sugar, and will join the mailing list.

Luke, I have a bricked OLPC from when I was a donor--want to give it to my little nephew and took it out of a drawer to find that the battery light goes on, the power goes on, but the screen doesn't even light up. I replaced the clock battery on the main board and tried restoring the firmware with a USB drive, nothing. Do you still do repairs?

Hi Luke, welcome on board!

Are you in touch with the Debian-edu developers? they seem to be maintaining the "education-desktop-sugar" metapackage which is surely related to your Debian plans in the near future :-) You should surely consider joining the debian-edu@lists.debian.org mailing list.

Since you come from Ubuntu, which is a derivative distribution, you might also be interested in http://wiki.debian.org/DerivativesFrontDesk and in joining the debian-derivatives@lists.debian.org mailing list.

Thanks a lot for your contrbutions to Debian!

For privacy reasons there is an LED hardwired to the camera, so that nothing in software can keep the light from going on when the camera is recording.

Could be a power adapter problem. Send me an email and I might be able to take a look!

Pretty interesting. Not exactly my problem though - my bricked OLPC simply won't take a charge. When AC is plugged in, there's no LED lights at all. By now the battery has run out of its own juice so there's simply no way to fire up the laptop at all. Thoughts as to what the cause could be?

Funny, I use Autokey and wondered the same some days ago :)

My two cents (note: I'm a Ubuntu user):
1. The majority of *buntu users are Ubuntu users
2. Kubuntu users are probably more "advanced" users
a. KDE is made/advertised to give more choice/options/power
b. These users _made_ the choice to use KDE, meaning they at least know what it is and its virtues/problems, and will be probably less puzzled by these packaging subtleties

This considered, I'd suggest making things as dead simple as possible for Ubuntu users: autokey-gtk should replace autokey

One more thing - taking all this advice may make your essays appallingly shorter than the assigned page count. Unless your professor is a twit, don't worry about it. My very first college English class, my very first 5-7 page essay only came in at 3.5 pages -- and that with wide margins. I was convinced I would flunk out of college. Instead I got an A and the professor commended me on my clarity and brevity when I bumped into him in the quad the following week.
